The UNECE Regional Civil Society Engagement Mechanism (ECE-RCEM), building on civil society engagement around the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development and the SDGs under review in 2026, has prepared a regional position paper presenting key civil society perspectives from across the UNECE region.
The paper has been accepted and published on the official HLPF 2026 website.
Regional disparities continue to affect progress across sustainable development in the UNECE region for the SDGs under review. Progress is challenged by structural inequalities, conflicts and migration, financing gaps, infrastructure deficits, and shrinking civic space.
At the same time, civil society organisations across the region continue to pioneer locally grounded, rights-based solutions and inclusive partnerships to accelerate progress. This position paper highlights shared challenges, emerging trends, and participatory priority areas for SDG implementation that respond to the rights and needs of local communities.
The paper reflects the voices and experiences of civil society actors working to ensure that sustainable development remains people-centred, inclusive, accountable, and grounded in human rights.
